Why I Used My Own Website
When Google published its official GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) guidance in May 2026, I immediately implemented every recommendation -- but on my own website, not a client's. I did this because I wanted honest data I could publish without confidentiality constraints, and because I wanted to understand exactly what works before recommending it to others. Here is the complete account: what I did, what I tracked, what the numbers showed, and what I got wrong.
Baseline: Where khemrajrikhari.com Stood Before GEO Implementation
| Platform | Query Tested | My Result (Before) |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overview | best ai seo consultant dubai | Not cited -- 3 other sites appeared |
| Google AI Overview | geo optimization dubai | Not cited -- no Dubai sites appeared at all |
| ChatGPT (GPT-4o) | who is the best ai automation consultant in dubai | Not mentioned -- generic list returned |
| Gemini 1.5 Pro | ai seo specialist dubai | Not mentioned |
| Perplexity | geo optimization consultant uae | Not mentioned -- US-based consultants only |
Google Search Console baseline (April 2026 average): 380 impressions per day, 23 clicks per day, 6.1% CTR, average position 28.4.
What I Implemented -- Exactly
Week 1: Direct Answer Paragraphs on All Service Pages
I rewrote the opening of every service page. Previously each page started with a contextual intro paragraph. I replaced these with a 55-65 word direct answer paragraph that precisely answered the main question someone would have if they landed on that page.
The rewrite for my GEO Optimization page went from: "In today's AI-powered search landscape, businesses need to think beyond traditional SEO strategies..."
To: "GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) for Dubai businesses is the practice of structuring your content so it is cited by Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Gemini when users ask questions in your service category. GEO differs from traditional SEO in that it optimises for AI citation rather than blue link ranking. Dubai businesses with proper GEO see their brand recommended directly by AI systems to high-intent searchers."
Time investment: 4 hours across 8 service pages.
Week 1-2: FAQ Schema on Every Page
I added a minimum of 6 FAQs per service page and blog post, using actual questions I receive from Dubai clients rather than invented questions. I validated every implementation using Google's Rich Results Test before publishing. Three of my initial implementations had errors that would have prevented Google from reading the schema -- the tester caught all three.
Time investment: 6-7 hours total across all pages.
Week 2: Author Bio and Entity Building
I added a named author bio to every blog post and created a dedicated /about page with credentials, LinkedIn, published work, and specific UAE market experience. I also updated my LinkedIn to explicitly describe GEO and AI SEO specialisation in the headline and about sections, and published a LinkedIn article linking back to the core service pages.
Week 3: Topical Cluster Completion
I identified that my GEO content cluster was incomplete -- one primary GEO page but no supporting cluster content. I published 3 shorter supporting pieces covering GEO for Dubai real estate specifically, GEO for Dubai clinics, and a GEO vs traditional SEO comparison with UAE-specific examples.
Total time investment for all GEO implementation: approximately 22 hours over 3 weeks.

What Worked Faster Than Expected
What Did Not Work (Yet)
ChatGPT: After 30 days, searching for "GEO consultant Dubai" or "AI SEO specialist UAE" in ChatGPT still returns generic responses without citing my website. This aligns with what I understand about ChatGPT's knowledge update cycles -- my new content has not yet been incorporated into training data.
Perplexity: One appearance in a broad search query but not in specific commercial queries. Still early.
My hypothesis: Google AI Overviews update their citations within 2-6 weeks of content changes. ChatGPT and Gemini training data cycles are longer -- the full GEO benefit likely takes 3-6 months to fully appear across all AI platforms. Anyone claiming instant ChatGPT visibility from GEO changes in 30 days is either in an extremely low-competition niche or measuring incorrectly.
What I Would Do Differently
If I were starting the GEO implementation again, I would begin LinkedIn authority content publishing simultaneously with the website changes, not after. The external citation signals from LinkedIn appear to amplify the on-site changes -- I lost approximately 2 weeks of amplification by sequencing them.
I would also have set up more systematic AI platform monitoring from day one. I lost data from the first two weeks because I was not tracking consistently. A simple weekly manual check across Google, Gemini, Perplexity, and ChatGPT for your 5 target queries takes 20 minutes and would have given me cleaner data for this report.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can any Dubai business replicate these results?
The impression and click improvements are achievable by any Dubai website with existing content that needs the GEO treatment. The AI Overview citation results depend on competition level for your specific keywords -- my results came from relatively low-competition GEO-related queries. Competitive categories like Dubai real estate or dentist Dubai will take longer. Start with your long-tail and location-specific queries where you already rank on page 2 or 3 -- those are the fastest wins.
How do I check if my website is appearing in Google AI Overviews?
Search your top 5 service-related queries in Google from a UAE location (use a VPN set to UAE if you are outside the country). If an AI Overview appears, check the source citations at the bottom of the AI-generated box. If your URL appears, you are being cited. I recommend checking weekly and keeping a simple spreadsheet of which queries produce AI Overviews and whether you are cited.
Did you use any paid tools for this implementation?
Screaming Frog (paid) for technical audit and Ahrefs (paid) for keyword research. Everything else -- Google Search Console, Google's Rich Results Test, Google's Structured Data Markup Helper -- is free. A committed Dubai business owner could implement everything I described using only free tools. The 22-hour time investment is the actual cost, not the software.
What is the difference between GEO and traditional SEO?
Traditional SEO optimises for ranking in the blue-link results on Google's search page. GEO optimises for being cited by AI systems -- Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity -- when they answer questions related to your business. The two overlap significantly: content that is well-structured, authoritative, and directly answers questions performs well in both. The specific additions for GEO are the direct-answer paragraph format, FAQ schema, and named author attribution -- none of which hurt traditional SEO rankings.
